Origin and Properties of Ingredients
Silicates are obtained by fusing sand with soda and, due to their alkalinity, are capable of converting the grease on dishes into soap and making it water-soluble. Adhering food residues are swollen and detached by these silicates. Soda, made from table salt and limestone, disperses the grease into fine droplets and thus supports the grease-dissolving power of the silicates. Citrate, obtained from the fermentation of sugar-containing by-products such as molasses, is added to the machine detergent to bind the lime in the rinse water and protect the machine from deposits, as it is known that many dishwashers, despite built-in ion exchangers (water softening systems), do not sufficiently soften the water.
